Town Centre, Pickering - Neighbourhood Information
The Town Centre neighbourhood is bounded by Bayly Street to the south, the properties fronting Kingston Road to the north, the hydro transmission corridor to the east, and to the west by Liverpool Road (south of Highway 401) and Pine Creek (north of Highway 401). Highway 401 and the Canadian National rail line cross through the neighborhood in an east-west direction.
The total area of the neighbourhood is 1.78 square kilometres, and includes portions of Krosno Creek and the hydro transmission corridor.
Town Centre Real Estate Market
Since 1980 various medium to high-density housing developments were established east of Glenanna Road, adding a significant residential population to the neighborhood. East of the mall, the City Hall building, central library, and Esplanade Park were completed in 1992, providing a civic focus.
More recent development includes a small subdivision east of Valley Farm Road, a retirement residence (apartment) along Kingston Road and on the corner of Valley Farm Road and Esplanade South, and townhouses on Valley Farm Road.
Living In Town Centre
At the centre of the neighbourhood is the Pickering Town Centre mall (affectionately known as the PTC). The mall was developed in the early 1970’s, and has undergone substantial expansion. Today, the Pickering Town Centre has more than 200 stores with over 84,000 square metres of retail and personal service floor space.
The Pickering GO Train station established at its current location in the late 1970’s is located just east of Liverpool and north of Bayly Street south of the 401. The station, in addition to the major highway are the major hubs for getting in and out of Pickering.
If you’re looking for indoor recreation, the Pickering Recreation Complex on Valley Road has you covered! An indoor ice skating arena (with skating programs), fitness facilities, personal training, racquet sports, and aquatics. If outdoor recreation is your go-to then check out Diana Princess of Wales Park and The Esplanade Park.
Looking to borrow library materials? Drop by the aptly named Pickering Public Library located on the Esplanade Road just south of City Hall.
A diversity of restaurants, financial institutions, office towers, supermarkets (Farm Boy & Lowblaws among several others), gas stations, and commercial plazas round out this neighborhood.
