If you are looking for an excuse to be more active and get outdoors than Pickering Waterfront Trail is a great place to start. Pickering has an approx. 12 km section of the 900 km waterfront trail running along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence river from Niagara on the Lake to the Quebec border. This section is divided into 3 sections, the First Nations Trail which is 3.5 km stretch from Rouge River to the west shore of Frenchman’s Bay. The Monarch Trail, 4.7 km section that surrounds Frenchmans Bay and ends at Millenium Square and finally the Peak trail, which is 4.2 km of trail from Millenium Square to the Ajax border. Each trail offers beautiful scenery and a perfect way to escape the city without leaving your backyard.
The Pickering City Centre Farmer’s Market is the perfect way to support local and enjoy the fruits of the community. Vendor’s from around the area bring their finest produce, crafts, and baking. Enjoy music and children’s activities as well. The market runs from June through to October on Tuesdays.
The Best Pickering NeighbourhoodsThe Northern part of Pickering, Ontario is mainly agricultural, however, there are a number of neighbourhoods around the city that are perfect places to call your next home.
Claremont is an unincorporated community in the north end of Pickering. A mainly rural village, there are suburban style housing mixed with older historic buildings.
The Bay Ridges community is one of the most desired areas in Pickering. Bordered by the 401, hydro corridor, Lake Ontario and Frenchman's bay, this 3.84 square kilometer area is scenic and serene. Amenities such as the nautical village, San Francisco by the Bay, Sir John A. McDonald public school, Alex Robertson Park and Douglas Park and Ravine are within this community. Townhouses and high rise buildings are mainly located in this area which is a 5-minute walk to the GO train. Within this area are 2 elementary schools, 8 neighbourhood parks, 3 community parks, 3 places of worship and both a community and seniors center.
With Rouge River to the west, 401 to the north, and Petticoat creek to the east, and Lake Ontario to the South, Rosebank area offers a little bit of everything. Close proximity to the highway for easy travel as well as Rouge National Park and Petticoat Creek conservation area for a quick escape to nature. This community has a school, a park, and senior living apartments.
The Amberlea neighbourhood covers 4.31 square kilometers, within its vicinity is a secondary school, 4 public schools, 5 parks and 1 commercial plaza with a supermarket and a bank. This area offers mainly detached and semi-detached style housing.
Duffin Heights is located just east of West Duffins Creek. 5.23 square kilometers, which include parks of Grand Valley Park and the southerly limit of the Seaton Hiking Trail. Those who live in this area have easy access to a golf course, place of worship and cultural center.
The City of Pickering amenities are plentiful ensuring residents have access to community spaces and activities.
Pickering Public Library is a hub for all things a traditional library offers as well as community events, classes, and group activities. There are 3 branches of the library, the Central Library, George Ashe Library and the Claremont Library located within the Dr. Nelson F. Tomlinson Community Centre.
Pickering Recreation Complex is a one-stop shop when it comes to activities, offering ice rinks, pool, fitness centre, squash, handball and tennis courts. Lakeridge Health Ajax-Pickering is the general hospital that services both Ajax, Ontario, and Pickering, Ontario. Having undergone major redevelopment in 2010, this new facility offers 144 beds, state of the art MRI capabilities and a Helipad.
School GuideWithin the four school boards, Durham District School Board, Durham Catholic District School Board, Conseil Scolaire Viamonde and Conseil Scolaire de district Catholique Centre-sud, there are upwards of 24 schools.
The public system has 15 elementary and 2 secondary schools within Pickering and the Catholic Board offers 5 elementary and 1 secondary school. The French Board has Ecole Ronald-Marion which is both an elementary and secondary school.

TransportationWhile venturing around Pickering, Ontario residents and visitors are able to use the busing systems provided by the Durham Region Transportation Authority. Routes offer access to all major hubs within the City.

Major highways, 401 and 407, also run through Pickering making access and travel a breeze.
